Why is this not it the bottom 100?

It really deserves to be.

reply

There are far worse films. For instance, Highlander 5: The Source.

You're gonna need a bigger thread.

And the Director's Cut improves the film quite a bit.

reply

It's not in the bottom because it shouldn't be in the bottom. Besides it would have to have the 3rd, 4th and 5th films lower then it.

I gave it one star, which is one more than it deserves. It really should be in the bottom 100.

Some of those you mentioned definately blow, especially 'The Mummy' remake and 'The Number 23', and I'm one of the few people who also hates mob movies, so I'm with you on 'The Godfather', but 'Highlander II' is STILL worse than all of those films.

And come on, 'Evil Dead 2'? That's a f#cking classic. I can't believe anyone would mention it in the same breath as 'Highlander II'. The original 'Saw' was a cool flick, and 'Saw III' was actually good as well (Still haven't seen Part V, but after having seen Part IV I really have no plans to do so...). 'The Omen' remake was good, if unneccesary in that it's virtually no different from the original, which is a great film (although David Warner was sorely missed).

'Highlander II' is not only an awful film taken purely on it's own merits, but it's also a slap in the face to the original movie. Really... if the DIRECTOR walks out of the premiere of his own film, that's a pretty bad sign. He can do as many renegade versions as he wants, but you can't polish a turd. The flashback to the scene where the chick from the original is dying was just... words can't describe it... Let's just say I'd rather have my eyes taped open and be forced to watch 'Son In Law' with Pauly Shore over and over again than see that scene just ONE more time.

Maybe i made an error i have only seen the DC. Thats the film i am speaking of. Also evil dead is oe of the most overrated films i have ever seen. Sure i will give ya that bruce campbell is awsome everyone knows that but the films themselfs are lousy. Plus any movie with Sir Sean Connerey is gold. And if you enjoyed saw or evil dead or other films like that then why not this one? Its not perfect but it is entertaining with lots of action ya they made a mistake writing this one. So what i dont see how evil dead is so much better i tryed to get in to it. I really did but i never loved it and sam rami is a gaint hack. Whats this mans claim to fame? Spider Man Evil Dead are bad films. Now this is my opinion you dont have to agree and i am not trying to insult you so please dont take it that way. But the highlander films are great 123 hell even endgame was good the only crappy movie in the saga is The source now that should be in the bottom 100. And i like the godfather i made a mistake writing that. Whops any way i say to you you dont have to like it or enjoy it but its got a pretty big following. I mean highlander is one of THE Movies of the 80's and if i am not mistaken this film did make a good ammont at the box office. And still sells well on dvd so really like your evil dead this well live on. I have seen alot worse films that go to the theater nowadays. Like paul blart mall cop or meda goes to jail. While this is not my favrotie of the franchise i dont ignore it. I all suggest that you rent the new special edition. If not to see the film better edited but to see the making of doc that explains alot. Its over an hour long and makes alot of sense why this film was a mess at release. But it have been imporved ten fold. Any way thanks for reading and again this is not an insult as it may seem to some it is just my honest opinion.

It's cool if you like the movie, I can think of several movies I absolutely love that are considered "bad" by the mainstream; 'Friday the 13th Part V', 'Halloween III: Season of the Witch', 'Sorority Babes In The Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama', 'Nightmare Sisters', 'Sorority House Massacre II'... the list goes on and on, so I respect it when people stick up for their opinions, even when it may not be popular to do so. I just didn't like it and couldn't really find anything redeeming about it, probably because I loved the original 'Highlander' so much and Part II just completely f#cks up the continuity of the whole "immortal" premise with a bunch of random, thoughtless, and totally unneccesary plot devices which seemed to be there solely for the purpose of bringing back Connery's character, but ironically, he was the only thing I thought was good about the film (I agree with you, he's an awesome actor) even though trying to write his character in was probably one of the things that made it such a mess. Otherwise it would just be another crappy film to me, and I could forget all about it. But whatever it is you like about Highlander II, that's cool.

As for Raimi... I think he's a good director, and in the case of the 'Evil Dead' flicks, I'd even say a great director, though he's probably heard that WAY too much for his or anyone else's good. If I'm wrong to say he doesn't appreciate his 'Evil Dead' fanbase, then apparently he outright hates them, which bothers me because not all of us have obsessive-compulsive disorders as he seems to think. The first 'Spider-Man' film was good, but not great, and the sequels were just so-so. Frankly, if I died having never seen either of them, I wouldn't consider it a loss. Actually, I can only think of four comic book adaptations I thought were truly great, and that's the first three 'Superman' films and 'Conan The Barbarian'... But, even though you're right that the material for the 'Evil Dead' films wasn't totally original at the time, the way he mixed all together was. He took this incredible range of influences, including the standard horror plot of the time (college kids in a secluded cabin), then mixed it with Lovecraft's ethereal "old ones" concept, The Three Stooges' humor, groundbreaking cinematography, new optical effects, new foam-rubber/latex stuff, old Harryhausen-style stop-motion effects, and of course, a protagonist who looks like he just fell off the cover of some cheesy romance novel, etc., and he just made it all really clever and entertaining. If you can't make a profound film, entertaining is your next best option. If you were entertained by 'Highlander II', I guess that's all that really matters.

I still think it should be in the bottom 100, but that's just my opinion.

Well i love the entire franchise and i can see why its the least liked but i dont think its that bad for the 100. There are worse films and if its in the 100 it should be 100 at least no lower. Anyway thanks for a nice reponse take care
