Where can I find this movie?

This sounded interesting and I love Apocalypse Now. Where can I find it?

Stupidly, Paramount stopped production on the VHS version and no DVD version has been announced. Nor is it available on any of the Apocalypse Now DVD's. The only way to get your hands on it is on eBay or via Amazon.com's Marketplace: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/6302414016/narphonaxcom-20

The director, or one of the directors was on the IFC network's show, "Dinner for Five," where he said that he has been trying to get Francis Ford Coppolla to make a DVD. He said that Francis wanted the director to change a couple of things in the movie. More specifically the tape where Francis says that, refering to the incident where Martin Sheen got a heart attack, and Francis said something like, Marty doesn't die until I say so. He says that it was taken out of context.

Saw this as VHS rental. Excellent. Canimeraybetau : Francis's wife Eleanor was one of the directors. Hoping this will be combined with Movie DVD soon.

I think a smart thing for them to do is put out a double disk of Apocalypse now with the second disk being Hearts of Darkness...watching it adds a lot to the movie and I think It would sell pretty well. I havent seen Hearts of Darkness in a few years but I would like to see it again but unfortunately its not around anymore, I may have to find the VHS on ebay or something, I have seen it on there for like ten bucks.

I've just got the Apocalyspe Now / Hearts of Darkness box set (beautiful looking, roughly brick sized) off ebay for £4 UK pounds. There are 2-3 copies of the documentary on there a week for uk bidders, usually going for quite a bit more than that. Worth keeping an eye out for copies where people list them just as Apocalypse Now box sets, not knowing that the documentary is deleted & collectable. If you're in the US I'd guess that there are even more copies floating around.

But yes, there really should be a special edition of the two films together. I'd even say a three disc set because of the amount of extra footage filmed - the stuff in the five hour version for instance, which would be fascinating to see as a bunch of deleted / alternative scenes - the unseen stuff of Brando improvising, Colby's whole deleted storyline.. etc.

I just got this yesterday used at a flea market for 2 bucks. I couldn't believe it! This is just another in a long line of OOP movies I've found at flea markets for very little money. My advice to you backenz77 is to check out your local flea markets, yard sales and any old mom and pop video store that are in your area, that is if there are any of those in your area. You never know a copy might turn up.

I was able to rent "Hearts of Darkness" at Hollywood video. Some of the Blockbusters also carry it - but it is on its way out. Most video stores are replacing all of their VHS with DVD's. Hearts is not on DVD. I think it is an exceptional film - if you can find it to rent or buy - do it!

Downloaded in .avi format using BitComet.

Downloading it or Ebay are probably your only chance at this point. As far as I can tell distribution rights are a complete mess and Coppola never seemed to be a huge fan of the Doc so he isnt going to push for a release (Notice the film is from 91 and almost all VHS and LD releases are from 92-93, then it went out of print right away). I guess the market is to small for studio to really step and and pay off all the distributors for the rights.

Bad news, according to http://www.thedigitalbits.com

" Finally, a lot of people have been asking if Paramount's Apocalypse Now: The Complete Dossier (due 8/15) will include the infamous Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse documentary. We've checked with the studio and sadly, it will not. Yes, we know... "How can they call it complete without that?!" We don't know. Do any of you industry types out there know who owns the rights to the Hearts of Darkness documentary, and what the status of its DVD release may be? It would seem like a no brainer."

To everyone who has not seen this amazing documentary yet, I'm sorry. It's definitely one of the greatest, most gripping, yet still artistically and conceptually accomplished documentaries, in my opinion.

I was very lucky to get to see it because my library has it on Laserdisc, so I watched it at the library on their Laserdisc player. I would suggest looking at your neighborhood libraries, as one of them could very well have it.

I have a good copy taped off PBS and a DVD of it. Email me personally if you need my *help*. Well worth it to watch. Put "Hearts of Darkness" in the subject line. I live in the U.S.
