Set in 1998?

I'm sure Luis Guzman's character was saying how he could be watching Wrestlemania 14, pay-per-view, instead of being on the stakeout. Any thoughts?

he was just being sarcastic, remember this was made in the early 90's when professional wrestling was seen as a joke. Now, its all serious, but back then people laughed at it.

Guzman also said he could be home watching the coochie coochie kid take on the frisco express.LOL

Its serious? I thought it was all fake.

He was being funny! but yeah the line made me think why say Wrestlemania 14?

Far as wrestling being taken seriously these days? Are you kidding, its just people in the wrestling business wanting people to think that. WWE and the like are Wrestling's version of 'Hollywood' with its big presentation style of things compared to real hardcore Wrestling like Ring Of Honor or Pro Wrestling Noah from Japan etc!

Wrestlers are probably more fitter and tougher than NFL stars and hockey players considering they are far more active and perform in the ring more times in the year than American Footballers ever do or hockey players. Yes wrestling obviously has set up storylines any person with common sense can see. But the physical requirements for a person to be a wrestler hardly makes their profession any less fake than say those sports that come under question as being real sports anyways. Like Motoracing, darts, Snooker/Pool, playing bowls etc.

Unless something thats called a sport is truly physical and puts your body under alot of stress over the course of a year due to sporting seasons and requires a high level of skill. Question whether or not terms like fake should be used to damn something you either don't like nor appreaciate in the modern world.

Wrestling moves in today's entertainment specticals are adapted from various styles of real wrestling that was used in combat going back hundreds of years ago in ancient times during the Roman Empire of all things by gladiators. Things have changed obviously. But make no doubt if used correctly today in self-defense certain wrestling moves used by a 'pro' could very incapacitate an oppontent let alone be used in amateur sports like 'freestyle wrestling' and Greco-Roman wrestling (which only utillies the upper body) which is an Olympic level sport!

Hell isn't acting fake professional or not! If you take into account that professional actors are called upon to take roles of mainly fictional characters who aren't real in fictional plays and TV programmes to theatrical movies etc. calling it professioanl hardly make up for that fact that it too is another form of entertainment in modern society that isn't too far removed from professional wrestling which is used for entertainment purposes.

Be more careful about using the term "fake" when it so obviously applies to alot of things in life that you've taken for granted!

Ultimate Fighting isn't fake and it has REAL wrestlers in there competing?

Have you ever played in the NBA/NFL, playing seriously for hours? Practiced
for hours? So what if the WWE stars pick a 200 pound guy up and drop them every
few minutes, there isnt alot of "action".

So I disagree, all that I've seen, "fake" wrestlers don't do much, they'll get
up and jump on someone, or pick them up and drop them a few times, hit them
with a plastic chair, for what 20 minutes? Have 5 300 pound guys jump ontop
of you with football pads(on) and see if you wanna continue running back and forth a football field.

reply

Please. If you want to talk tough, talk about Rugby where 1 half if 45 minutes being bared down upon with no protection whatsoever. That's what the football pads are mostly for.

And as for wrestling, you try doing that 200 plus days of the year with no off season, taking care of your own medical and transport bills, carpool and do anything to save next to little money to enertain a thousand plus fans a night - and then talk about tough.

A sport usually involves legitimate competition, pro wrestling is just a show.
