Why rated R?

Hi folks,

Why is this film rated R? Is it for language, violence, nudity... what?

Thanks!

well obviously it was rated r because of the excessive vulgarity/profanity, brutal gun violence of people being murdered, other suggestive situations and characters (hookers, drunk/drugged out junkies, the drunk guys at the restaurant mooning some guy and calling him a *beep* in front of a 10 year old girl)...the word *beep* was used a lot, and *beep* was used several times...normally pg-13 movies don't have a lot of this and violence and suggestive situations are more mild

Well obviously the American censor needs to come up with a rating in between PG13 and R...or would that be too easy???

we have one between PG13 AND R in canada....well we did at the time this came out because i was 13 and i saw it in theaters with two friends, it was called "AA". not sure which version this was but there were actually two versions, one was AA14 and the other was AA16. i assume the content of the movie decided which it was labeled with. but it meant that someone had to be at least 14 or 16 if there were no adults around to get in. so in my case i saw it with two friends, one was my age and other was 16.

i've noticed over the years there's a few movies i saw in theaters which people say were rated R. i used to wonder how that was possible because until 2003-ish, R in canada meant you had to be 18 period, regardless if you had anyone older with you. but now i'm realizing they must have been AA.

but back in 2003 when i saw Freddy Vs. Jason i noticed a couple brought their two kids with them and they were both 5yrs old or younger. i was caught aback so i looked it up and found out we had created 18A which of course meant any kid could get in as long as they were with someone who was 18 or older. they also changed the AA's. they moved the "A" after the numbers and we now only have 14A and they got rid of 16.

we apparently still have R but i've never seen a movie get that rating since 2003, they always have 18A when they are hard R in america. so i'm guessing a movie would have to be the equivalent of NC-17 in america for us to make it R. and of course thats a rating thats been used i think like than 10 times since its creation so yeah.....the canadian kids of today have it made, they never need to sneak into theaters or worry they cant go, lucky bastards. i missed out on so many classics during the 80s that i had to wait for video. lol

anyway sorry for the long history lesson but now you know. :P

Here in Belgium, we have: All, 6 (or sometimes 9), 12, 16 and 18. And 18 is porn.

I just didn't want to be a loser anymore.

I'm pretty sure that using the F-word (even just once) got you an R rating. Not sure if that's true anymore though.

Nowdays you're allowed two non-sexual uses of fck in a PG13 movie. So you can say "What the fck?" but not "I fcked your mother," and still be PG13.

The '80s were even weirder. There are PG movies with lots of swearing and even frontal nudity.

I'm actually surprised it was rated R in 1990. But I do think that was probably seen as something positive for michael j fox at the time
