I can't believe...
Sissy Spacek took this role! Based on the script/dialogue alone, that should have been reason enough to turn it down. The wedding shower/shower scene...trying to offer up malted milk balls as a panacea? Dumb!
shareThe reason Sissy Spacek agreed to be in the film is that she wanted to work with director Lee Grant (also Academy Award Winning Actress).
However, Grant and leading man William Patersen didn't see eye to eye. Grant wanted a darker heavier tone for the film and Patersen wanted a lighter touch. Patersen who was also one of the producers won out - Lee was either fired and voluntarily left the project to be replaced by Martin Donovan (a big nothing).
We will never know but in Lee Grants very capable hands this could have been a better film.
