How can there be barely any posts here?!

I'm a bit surprised. This movie was genius and beautiful.

@vesaire

What do you mean?

I think that the relatively few posts for this movie is that it hasn't been seen by many people yet. After viewing it, I really think that it was an ok movie, but not a great one. So that might have something to do with it too.

It's a nice little film, but it's a bit more Japanese centric, and doesn't have too many universal themes coursing through it. How many other nations have had an atomic weapon dropped on them in a war? Only Japan.

I rarely say this about Kurosawa, because to me he is the grand-master of film making, but I think there could have been a better film that addressed aggrieved parties world wide regarding international conflict.

That, as opposed to this film which focuses on the grandmother's emotional state by way of the visit by the American relative.

This film is more for those who still harbor deep resentment for the dropping of the weapon, and is meant to help them get passed, or at least address whatever lingering feelings they may have regarding the attack.

It's a nice little film, but it is narrow in scope and focus.
