Unnecessary realism?

In the beginning of the movie, Sean gets into a fight with a guy at a martial arts training center. And despite it being a freakin' dojo, and this being a cheesy sci-fi action film, they don't start some over the top fight with roundhouse kicks and shiz. No, they fight like people fight in real life: they get on the ground and cuddle like violent lovers.

An interesting little detail, I thought.
