The true story behind this film

A Brighter Summer Day is famously based on an incident during director Yang's youth, a murder case which rocked Taiwan in 1961. Having finally seen this remarkable film in its entirety - still waiting for the Criterion release I caved and watched the infamous torrent which has been doing the rounds for some years, and is quite watchable if a little murky - I am keen to read about the true life inspiration, but am unable to find anything about it. Does anyone have any leads?

No leads, but according to one of the screenwriters (www.criterion.com/current/posts/3984-talking-with-screenwriter-hung-hung-about-a-brighter-summer-day), "Although the film was based on an actual youth murder that took place in Taipei, that incident served merely as the shell of the story, a container for Edward’s own reminiscences."
