Guilty As Charged (1991) Is A Superb Film

Guilty As Charged(1991)is an excellent black comedy with a great performance
by Rod Steiger who decides to take the law into his own hands by building his own jail,holding trials for guilty murderers who have slipped through the fingers of the justice system and executing them in his own homemade electric chair.The film has been compared to another black comedy he made called No Way To Treat A Lady(1968).However,that film is a much darker film with Steiger clearly playing a deranged actor who enjoys playing a game of cat and mouse with the police.In Guilty As Charged,he plays a sympathetic character whose own family was murdered by a convict who was released too soon.
Guilty As Charged is a cult classic that's a very impressive film to see with
it's only debit being an important role that actor Lyman Ward plays as a
politician who's committed a murder.This writer blames this movie's director
Sam Irvin for Ward's performance because the director has control over his actors.Regardless of Lyman Ward stumbling on and off in his portrayal of a clearly rotten to the core politician,this is an impressive little low budget film that is well worth watching.As always,Mr.Steiger gives an excellent performance as a religious man who has his own view of justice.This is a highly recommended film.
There are no fools in this film or working behind the camera.
