Futurians are stupid.

Why not just go by themselves from 2204 to 1944 and kill the Godzillasaurus and plant King Ghidorah?

No need to teleport the Godzillasaurus anywhere and no need to go to 1992.

it's called dramatic plot holes, and almost every movie or tv show involving time travel will have a few. haha

"Hey, Hicks. Man, you look just like I feel."

I was wondering, what was the point of going to 1992 before 1944? Why not go to 1944 directly?

reply

Because it just can't happen according to the time-travel rules established in the film. Everything is in a stable time loop, changing the past only writes the future as it already is. It just wasn't destined to happen. The Futurians HAD to go back in time and move the Godzillasaurus to the Bering Sea, so that Godzilla could be created in the 1970's by a sub crash, and then so that the Futurians could go back in time to erase him in the first place. Long story short, time travel cannot change the future in this film's universe. It can only write history the way it already is.

That makes perfect sense, however it still doesn't explain why they had to travel back to 1992 first.

They traveled back to 1992 because that was the specific time period in Japan they wanted to attack, and the people they needed to ensure their mission was a success (Kenichiro Terasawa, the writer who came up with the theory that Godzilla was the Godzillasaurus on Lagos; and Miki Saegusa, the psychic who could confirm to them that the dinosaur was Godzilla) were both around at that time.

Ohhh okay, I see. Thanks for clearing that up.
