English subtitles?

Is there an edition anywhere with English subtitles? I would really like to see this movie but cannot speak any German.

reply

I guess, nobody wants to translate that movie because the saxonian slang cannot transmitted over subs. Better you learn the german language to understand that special eastern slang ;)

Saxonian version from the movie: "Dor Vadder ä' Schläschor. De Mudder änne Hure. Scheene Eldorn habsch!" :D

German version: "Der Vater ein Schläger. Die Mutter eine Hure. Schöne Eltern habe ich!"

The English translation would be "The Father a fighter, the mother a b*tch, I have nice parents!" ... absolutely boring ;)

btw ... I was born in Saxonia and living near Berlin for over 26 years. So I understand the saxonian slang but I speak the Berlin slang today.

What would be nice, is if there would even be German subtitles!

I am not a native German speaker, but at least I can read German.

I searched, but there is nothing. I can't understand why so many German DVDs lack subtitles, even for people with hearing problems.

reply

because, sadly, germany is a 'dub country'...
the (vast) majority of people isn't used to reading subs...

A similar movie which does have English subtitles is Bienvenue Chez les Ch'tis - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1064932/.

The soundtrack is in a mixture of 'proper' French and northern French dialect (Ch'ti), but the English subtitles are very carefully written so as to convey the nuances of the dialect.
