Paladin / Have Gun Reference

Apparently the character of Paladin is mentioned in this movie. It seems his death date of 1906 is mentioned. Can anyone verify this and/or elaborate?

In the Gambler's line of continuity, Paladin is dead by 1906. In Have Gun - Will Travel's line of continuity, I don't think that this film made any difference. The reason that Paladin is dead by the time that this film begins is because Richard Boone, the actor who played Paladin, died in 1981. Yet, out of respect, they wanted to include him in the film anyway. So, the final scenes take place in the Hotel Charlton, Lady Li (formerly Hey Girl) does the dealing, and the game is played with Paladin's personal deck.

Had he still been alive, Paladin would have likely been in his 70s by 1906.

Since when was Paladin a gambler? That doesn't make sense. Why not Maverick or Masterson?

I watch alotta TV...but that doesn't mean I don't have a job.

Paladin often played poker on the show. His origin story ("Genesis") showed that he became Paladin during a situation that he got into because of a gambling debt.

exactly....had Richard Boone still been living in 1991 when this was filmed, he'd be about 73--approximate age of Paladin.
