Not keen on Idgie

I know Idgie did some good deeds, but I found her a bit unlikeable in the book and film. I can't put my finger on exactly why. Did anyone else feel the same?

A little when Ruth first comes back into the picture to try being friends with her, but that's understandable because she's still bitter from Buddy's death and keeping her distance from people.

I can't tans her as an old woman, I've seen this movie countless times and the more I watch it the more annoying I find Nini, like 'no one cares gramma, just shut up jeeez' starting every story as if everyone should know about freaking Idgy and the tomatoes.

reply

It isn't her as an old woman telling the story though.

Is mint not considered to be Idgie then? I never got that clear... I think young Idgie's film depiction suffered from her sexual ambiguity and she's a bit split as many different characters, some boys you like and respect some are obscure and even dishonest. I used to like this movie but with the years I find it more and more flawed an void of any guts, not because them didn't make them gay but because they didn't make them completely straight either and try seem to e stuck at a sexual limbo that distracts you from the rest of the plot.
