Al Pacino takes my breath away
I absolutely love Al Pacino in everything, but in this movie in particular his intensity just leaves me breathless. (He's crazy sexy in "Sea of Love," too.) His Johnny loves Frankie so much and the way he refuses to allow her to withdraw from him just gives me chills, especially when he asks the DJ to play "Clair de Lune" again. I just watched F&J again for probably the half-dozenth time and I still want to shake Frankie and tell her to wake up, realize what she has with him, and give happiness a chance.
I love this movie on so many levels. First of which, like I said, is that Johnny just makes me melt. But also because the film boasts such a perfect ensemble cast. Every one of the actors makes their characters so interesting and lovable, including Cora, Netta and Nick in the diner and Tim and Bobby next door to Frankie. (Another thing I love about it is that when I first saw it in 1991, that was the first time I ever saw Nathan Lane, and he immediately became one of my favorite character actors. I will watch him in anything.)
