Anyone remember Bette Midler's Golden Globe speech?

It was a rather bitter one and pretty much uncalled for because she was still seething that For The Boys flopped at the box office. It flopped because the movie sucked! I saw it when it first came out and not even Miss Midler could save this and normally I like her because she is a funny entertainer. See Bette at her best in The Rose, Down and Out in Beverly Hills, Ruthless People and Outrageous Fortune, those are classics.

I just saw it on YouTube. The speech wasn't bad until the end, when like you said she got kind of bitter. I get that this was a project she cared about deeply and worked like a dog to get made, but sometimes movie projects fail. It's the business. Always has been always will be.

I have to say that it is definitely a "wait for video" kind of movie (that was a pretty new phenomenon in those days).

It wasn't bitter, she was just telling the truth. The movie was not well received by the "I love America" crowd because they failed to recognize it wasn't Anti-American in the least. It's a movie about characters and the reality of war.
"The movie sucked" is not a fact, it's your opinion.
