WHAT A LOW RATING!

It should be rated higher than 5.7!

I'm pretty new to this site, but from what I've seen of the Top 250 list, this film didn't have enough violence, gunfire, murder, and mayhem to get a good vote from the regulars. (Plus, having a female lead seems to count against movies here. )

How could this movie be any better? Everyone is great in it. I love this movie. And I watch tons of movies.

Some people just aren't Bette Midler fans. I'm one of them. Or to be clearer I think she's out of her element on film. Thought the leads had zero chemistry. Thought the story lacked depth. Movie seemed to drone on and on with few if any highs. A drab re-telling of drab fictional events.

Aren't you gonna tell me to break a leg?

Just finished watching it at 5am the day after Christmas.. couldnt sleep and it was on HBO so watched it for the first time. Im no Bette Midler fan but really liked her in this movie. The movie really drew me in, went on a bit too long but really enjoyed it. And wow, Bette is a pretty woman too. Never really noticed her before since I had never seen any of her movies, but she is very beautiful and a good actress.

I agree the movie is underated,on the board and in the world.

5.7,however,has been my own personal level that i unreservedly recommend films to those who ask.

I like the movie, but don't think its a very good movie. I saw this on Encore Love Stories recently and thought that was a bit odd since other than their one-night-stand, there was never a romance in this story, just a professional relationship.

Its a bit manipulative and broad. To quote Siskel, "its corn-balland old fashioned but I kind of liked it".

I just watched it for the first time since it was released, and I can't believe the low rating on imdb. In the same year, Hook was realeased, and it's rated 6.3 (you must be joking - I wouldn't give it 3.6). In the same month An American Tail - Feivel Goes West was released, and it's ranked 6.1. I mean seriously, I don't understand it. For the Boys might be sentimental, but I think the low rating is nuts. I loved Bette Midler and James Caan in their performances, and I really liked the portrayal of the changes in soldiering rom World War II to Vietnam. Sure, the old-people makeup was overdone, and the use of a song that hadn't been released in its era kind of took me out of the story, but those are my only complaints. I really think this film should be rated much higher.
