When Danny's killed . . .

I hated the intrumental for that scene! I mean electric guitar? How lame! It really killed the moment for me.

Nena you are out of your mind! That comment is untrue and irresponsible. Most Americans returned to lead normal productive lives as up standing members of society. They best thing you could do right now, is delete your post.

Your facts are simply incorrect. And I know more about comming home from war than you could ever imagine.

The good thing about having a DVR is that now I can watch the real stories of war-is-hell that come on the history channel around 2:00 am... a lot of people came back from war (not just Vietnam but Korea, WWII, WWI, etc.) as 'lost souls' suffering from serious PTSD. They called it 'battle fatique' in WWII and I think in WWI. Saw a documentary on men suffering all their lives with PTSD.
No good comes from war, but unfortunately it is still necessary even in this day and age. And it looks like it will be coming again to the USA, up close and personal.

Consider what it might be like to see dead bodies and pieces of dead bodies and your comrades killed next to you... one minute alive the next minute minus an eye or head or leg. Consider how young people are when they go to war... kids really. They have no understanding, yet, that life is short then you die. The horror of war.

So George Segal could have been 'better' in the role that Caan played, yes probably so. So Bette sang a song that hadn't been written yet. So what, it was not a 'true story', it was a tear-jerker, at least for me.This was a beautiful, albeit flawed, movie.

I love the movie, even with its flaws.

Life is a journey not a destination. Fear nothing.

You thought of Hendrix? That was no where near how Hendrix played. It sounded more like Eddie Van Halen (with the pinch harmonics and dive bombs). It really made no sense.

And her performance of "In My Life" was also pretty horrible. There's quite clearly an entire band behind her and she does it with what sounds like a music box accompanying her.

Sorry for late response, but just went to this site and found your post. What you described is pretty much the way it was for Aussie boys coming home from VietNam too. Maybe with the exception of the drugs.

After huge work by the vets and supporters, Australia finally had a welcome home parade for them, years after they actually did. Shame, shame on the politicians who sent them there. But at least with our health cover, they do get treatment.

Thanks for spoiling it and telling me Danny dies.

I thought the guitar being used as a musical scream was excellent (a child is screaming when the guitar enters the score).

And yes, this post should have had a spoiler alert and a different title.

reply

I HATED when people post spoiler titles. I mean...stupid? How moronic! It really killed the movie for me.

Damn, its hard for me to have that feeling and I hope I never do. The 60s was a time of change and I also very scary decade to live in. That war should be a lesson for citizens to not be manipulated into a war.

Your nobody until somebody kills you.
