Your favorite moment in Flirting.

No other film comes as close to perfection as Flirting. Combines great sincerity with poetic language that never seems forced. My favorite film, hands down.
I absolutely love the part where Danny and Thandiwe are sitting down outside, and through Voice Over Danny talks about the bruises that her socks make against her skin, and how those bruises let him know that she's real. So simple, so beautiful.

What's your favorite moment?

Two cute scenes. The scene where Thandiwe and Danny ane hiding in the shower. Boys being there noisy comical best. The naked singing boys seem so young and innocent. You never see naked boys in American films and it surprises me when I see it in foreign films, it always gets cut when aired in America. It is so natural and I never see why it is considered taboo here except for the uptight religious right that causes shame and forces censorship down our throats. It is only perverted to the dirty minded conservatives who try and make us ashamed of what is natural like our bodies. It is their narrow minded book burning mentality censorship that creates the perverse desire and actually promotes the desire of sicko's wanting porn. If it wasn't forbidden and taboo and natural as it should be the perverse desire for it would disappear. That is what the closeminded religious zealots don't understand. There is nothing sexual about nudity except censorship makes it so by creating the unnatural desire with it's forbiddeness.

The petting scene where Thandiwe is masturbating Danny in his pants and he tells her to stop and she asks why. Then he ejaculates in her hand and she says, oh that's why. Real cute. The boy is trying so hard to be all cool and it has to be an embarrasing experience for a virgin boy. Yet also pleasant feeling and exciting. Also as far as Noah goes he handles the acting very well for an on purpose embarrassing scene. Really enjoyed Noah in both of these two related movies.

I love this film, the ending will have to be one of my favourite scenes. When I used to watch this when I was younger (about 8 to my pre-teens), I didn't really understand it, but now that I am older, I can really appreciate the movie a lot more. There are so many scenes which I can relate to, and I truely understand how the characters felt. Back to one of my favourite scenes, the ending, it was so emotional and beautiful when he got that letter from Thandiwe just after he thought she had died. It really makes me want to see them together again. I wonder if they will ever make a sequel? I doubt it though. Or someone could just atleast write one, I'd still be happy.

I love the scene between Thandiwe and Nicola after she catches her returning to the dormitory and Nicola relates the " handy-man " incident.
I love how she becomes human in that scene, she stops being head-girl and is just being herself.
Love how she finishes off the monolgue with " which i do...most of the time, especially in Math."

" I know what it does fur-face..now activate the transport beam!" Skeletor

I like many scenes, but one I recall is the scene when Thandiwe sticks her head through the class window and someone in the classroom yells out "Theres an Abo at the window".

< I don't know why, but it's Hillarious.

I can't pick a favourite moment. I love this movie too much, the whole movie makes me feel shivery delicious all over.

reply

There are so many as this is one of my favorite films of all time..
But..

The "Shivery Delicious" scene.

And..

The scene where the girls are rehearsing the strange dance...

It would have to be the boxing scene where danny got his butt whupped by that guy. That scene made way to both of them seeing eye to eye. Also, it showed Thandie that Danny really cared for her.

Sartre: Cigarettes
Danny: No

I havent seen the movie since very early 90's but it left an everlasting impression. I was gagga-googoo over Miss Thandie before most knew of her, lol and her name means "Beloved" and so does mine,,,,,,anyways, me fav scene was the part where shes giving her essay and does that little "shake" of the hips, oh my!

reply

DEFINITELY the Sartre exchange during the boxing match. HAHAHAHA!!!

Ending, as Danny reads Thadie's letter and his closing soliloquy. Outstanding. I also liked "The Year my voice Broke". Its out of print, and the DVD is nearly 100 or higher on Amazon.

Indeed, the ending was beautiful. It was a great uplift too; I was getting quite depressed about Thandiwe's "death" and suddenly... a nice little turn in events. :]

I saw an ad for the TYMVB DVD in a magazine (woman's day? new idea?). I didn't look at it properly though. Wish I can watch that movie somewhere.

I love the whole movie, but my favorite parts are the narration. I can't think of any movie that uses voice over so poetically. The narration is not exposition as it usually is in other movies and it's not even necessary in Flirting, but adding it brings a whole new facet to this Great movie.

I love the entire movie, but I have three scenes that always come to mind with that movie(in no real order):

1. The scene between Nicole and Thandie about the handy man. It showed that Nicola was much more than a stuffy head girl. She could have the same feelings and emotions as Thandiwe.

2. The midnight scene when they were together. It was just so sweet and innocent. And afterward when he sniffs his hand in bed, it's just precious. Reminds you so much of when you had a first love and all the discoveries and feelings you felt.

3. After they get caught in the hotel and they're being led to different cars, Thandiwe turns and says, "You keep this half of the world going." and he says "You look after the other!" For some reason, that just touches me. I know why it gets me, but I don't trust myself to put it into words, lol.

Totally unrelated to the two main characters but one would be the girl that takes Dany to see Thawndie and the woman comes in the room and the girl says they thought it was a Raper and the woman corrects her that it's Rapist and tells them to go to sleep.

His friend telling Dany that Thawndie wants him and he knows because his seen national geographic and has seen the African women in the documentaries.
