the only scene that I actually liked in this bizarre film

Was when the homeless cabaret singer showed up in drag holding balloons at Amanda Plummer's office and sang about the video spot.

Pretty much agree. The wrong person won Best Supporting Actress.

There's a similar scene in 'Brazil' where a cabaret singer goes to the main characters home and sings out an invitation to a party. It seems Gilliam puts a lot of similar scenes in these two movies. In fact, this is almost like a different, more optimistic version of Brazil.

Limit of the Willing Suspension of Disbelief: directly proportional to its awesomeness.

For me that was the worst scene of the film. Made no sense. Hurt my ears and my head. Couldn't even tell what he was saying. He was not singing - he was screeching.

Not everyone likes Ethyl Merman. Her voice is pretty harsh and brassy - and his singing was a take-off of hers.

His singing hurt the ears and the sight of him hurt the eyes, lol.

that character added nothing
