But if it was going to be remade
Robert Downey Jr. should play Jeff Bridges' part (watch the Soloist to see why, even though it's pretty terrible)
and
Sharlto Copley should play Robin Williams' part (watch the A-Team to see why)

This film is perfect and not dated at all so a remake would be moot.

Kate Beckinsale as Anne
Keira Knightly as Lydia

This film is totally unique. To try to remake it would be to lose all of its magic and grace. Robin Williams is so indelibly imprinted on this work that anyone else would be compared constantly-a poor way to work.

I agree- it's one of the best films I've ever seen The casting was excellent.

Lydia is intended to be homely. Knightly would be a horrible, unbelievable choice for that character.
