Laserdisc to DVD

I have given up waiting and gone and converted this to DVD from a laserdisc master. I have only ever previously seen a VHS pan & scan version, so i'm looking forward to seeing the result.

It annoys me that with the current availabliity and low cost of DVD generation & digital mastering, that a distributor/studio are still yet to release the first film produced with 100% digital-mastered-audio, to the DVD format.

Update 23/10/07:
just got it in the post & watched it last night and was impressed by the cinemascope format and digital audio. While being non-anomorphic and of laserdisc resolution, it was still impressive on a 32' LCD thru a surround sound system. I love the flashbacks and end montage!

I had to resort to transferring my old Vhs to Dvd. The quality's not great, but looks like it'll have to do.

Hi Brian!

While still waiting an hypothetical DVD release (by the way : I totally agree with you about the availability issues), I'd be glad to purchase you a copy through Paypal.
On my side of the ocean, I've only found some odd doubled VHS copies. Just imagine Hector Elizondo speaking in french...

I actually saw this film in 1991 at the CineramaDome (lived in L.A. at the time) and thought it was a masterpiece. Brilliant performances; james sikking was one of the most underrated character actors of his time. I believe this was one of the first digital-sound films, too!

I've been dreaming of a widescreen release since then. I don't usually settle for homemade transfers, but I've given up hope on this one. Brian, would you be willing to make another DVD copy of your widescreen laserdisc for me as a favor from one fan to another?
