I can understand the father's dismay at the cost of the wedding cake. Nearly 30 years later, the cost of bakery items is nutty! Some bakeries in Chicago charge $5.00 for a mere slice of cake or pie.

Yeah. Just a bakery made birthday cake is $30 at my local Kroger store. Still, $1,200 for a cake in 1990 is a lot. I always hated the way Fronk responded to George with, "Welcome to the 90s, Mr. Banks." I frankly am on George's side. I don't care what year it was, $1,200 is way too much to pay for a cake.

ILOVE STEVE MARTIN AND BOTH FATHER OF THE BRIDE FILMS...BUT RARELY REWATCH THEM BECAUSE I FIND MYSELF FIRMLY IN GEORGE'S PERSPECTIVE AT ALL TIMES...STRESSFUL AND INFURIATING AT TIMES.

I'm able to enjoy it. Plus the wedding being so expensive is what makes it funny. It is a shame it seems to be implied at the end that they have to clean up their own house after the wedding.
