Could someone please explain this movie to me? I watched it today on IFC (listed as "Zenotrope") and loved this visuals...but didn't really understand quite what was going on. What was the overall messege? What was the deal with the werewolf business?!?! HELP!
shareI just finished watching this and was generally disappointed. I thought it looked fantastic and it was well worth 2 hours of my time to enjoy the pictures. The story and performances on the other hand just didn't do it for me (except for Max Von Sydow whose narration was excellent). I'll watch it a few more times to see how much it grows on me (apparently it's a grower).
I thought the "overall message" was that there's no point being Switzerland :)
By that I mean neutral. Leo was the only character without strong beliefs, he was the most likeable, least offensive character, just wanting to do the best he could for everyone he meets but where did that get him? He was constantly taken advantage of and used. In the end he's trying to keep so many people happy he doesn't know if he's coming or going which ultimately kills him.
The werewolves were a pro Nazi terrorist organisation still fighting the war after it's over. It is not meant to suggest they turn into canine monsters every full moon :)
