I remember this kid in lots of commercials around that time, so I guess that's how she got the part, but light hair and blue eyes to play a mixed Asian Phoebe Cates who has jet black hair and dark brown eyes........Yes, that always bugged me. The mom was the same age and looked the same througout the entire movie as well, something else that was odd. Couldnt they have hired a 20 something actress to play the mom when Lizzie was little?

I guess not. If I remember correctly this movie had a limited budget. Plus the woman who played her mother was a fairly popular actress I'm her hayday. Still I can see a mother not aging for a while. I've seen it a lot and it can occur.

But the little girl had dark hair in the film.

Also, I find it weird that people always ignore Phoebe Cates' ethnicity. I know that 'colour blind' casting is a good thing, but is you're going to cast a mixed-Asian actress doesn't it make sense to cast an Asian actor as one of her parents? But Phoebe Cates seemed to be too often cast as bitchy WASPs in films like 'Date with an Angel' and 'Bright Lights Big City' which didn't suit her look or her sweet personality which was utilised to best effect in the 'Gremlins' films.
