How Times Have Changed

Couldn't help, but notice the scene where Jim and his cronies are flying to a concert and are partying it up along the way. Unbelievable the thick fog of cigarette smoke that filled the cabin. The flight attendant didn't seem to be bothered by it when she cheerfully served Jim a tray of food. Neither did the other passengers on the flight, most notably that guy reading the newspaper.

It must have been hard to breath in there. Can't picture something like that ever happening in this day and age. 🚬✈

reply

Yeah and have you ever seen old videos of an old NFL football game? Half the crowd is smoking during the game.

reply

I notice that stuff too and what's even weirder is hardly anyone can be seen smoking in a film now it seems.

reply

Yes, it's pretty awful. It used to be you either smoked or didn't smoke. Now, we place cigarette smokers in the category just a notch below of pedophiles and murderes. Look at the them and shake our heads in disgust that we have to allow them life.
I have a suggestion, Perhaps, mind your own g0ddamn business?

reply

The non smoking portrayed in film today is bs, as a hell of alot of people still smoke...Hollywood crap....

reply

Sensitive much? Hey, I love taking walks and seeing ciggy butts anywhere some slob decides to toss 'em. An expensive and unhealthy habit. No mature adult smoker does not regret taking up smoking.

reply

How about you mind your own finances? And not all smokers toss their butts everywhere. There is such a thing as respectful smokers. And yeah, I'm an ex-smoker and indeed I regretted starting the habit... I really don't see what is the fucking connection with maturity.

reply

Well, I do mind my own finances, thank you very much. And I never said all smokers, etc. But I can't walk anywhere without noticing cig butts on the ground. A case of some ruining it for all. And I also notice people who don't look like they have two nickels to rub together somehow manage to wedge yet another coffin nail into their lips. I doubt they are conscientious consumers. I imagine they feel life has turned it's back on them so why should they give a rat's ass about litter? Filth begets filth.

reply

And here again, why the fuck does this bother you so much? Let people live their lives or ruin them as they wish.

And this is comming from someone who actually gets bothered by things that really don't matter much.

reply

Because it's so unnecessary. Cigs don't taste good. Whatever benefit they deliver is because the person is addicted. The "filters" don't biodegrade. It's trash, it's addiction, it's a whole economy built on addiction and makes trash. If you don't want to talk about it, drop it.

reply

All right, I'm done arguing with you about and will just give you a list of others unnehealty addictions which are, somehow, totally accepted and legal (in most countries): cars (yes, people depent too much on them for every little trip to the grocery store which is on the corner of the street and a lot get out of shape, plus, very bad for the environment), coffee, alcohol, fast-food (yes, I know, it does receive a lot of criticism... but somehow, it still exist and is still successful), soda drinks (same as the previous point), etc.

Okay, I give you that cigarettes are more harmful. Still, are they really worse of a social nuisance ? Nah. Grow the fuck up and stop being a judgmental child.

reply

Don't tell me to Grow the fuck up and stop being a judgmental child. You just turned into the bastard here. Look motherfucker - I'm likely older than you and cigarettes are a pox on humanity and the environment. Why don't you eat some plutonium laced with mercury you dumb-ass. Or better yet, smoke a fucking cigarette. I'll remember your dumb-ass handle and laugh at whatever moronic comment follows, until I just ignore them like Wuchak and Bubba.

reply

They smoked everywhere back then even hospitals.

reply

I will quote Denis Leary here...

"We tried to be nice to you non-smokers. We fucking tried. OK? You wanted your own sections in the restaurants. We gave you that, huh. But that wasn't enough for you. Then you wanted the airplanes. We gave you the whole goddamn plane! You happy now? I will guarantee you if the plane is going down, the first announcement you're gonna hear is: "Folks, this is your Captain speaking. Look, uhm, light 'em up, 'cause we're going down, okay. I got a carton of Camel non-filters, I'll see you on the ground."

reply

I know this is bit off topic, but isn't quite ironic how much great music came from the 1960s, and how that period of time is when psychedelic drug use was at an all-time high? I think psychedelics is solely what created that great wave of music.

reply

A bit reductive but I won't disagree with this entirely. I suspect it's more the consequence of a lot of different musical influences being brought together in unprecedented fashion. Travel and communication suddenly (more or less) became easier and people were looking for different areas of inspiration. But I don't know. I just don't want to make a blanket statement that psychedelics were at the root of all the good music that came out at the time.

reply

It was just a short while ago that restaurants were insufferable. Everybody smoked and you just sat in this fucking cloudy stink chamber and couldn't even taste your food. I actually had a quarantine laundry bag for clothes I wore when I went out.
