Bryan and Carolyn are dumb

I just rewatched this movie for the first time in about seven years and it finally hit me that Bryan and Carolyn are really stupid. Sue Ellen refuses to tell Bryan where she works, makes his frustration about her not letting him pick her up from work about him being pissed that she doesn't want to meet his sister, then defends the "back-stabber" at work. And then after all that, when he's talking to Carolyn about it at GAW, Carolyn sees Sue Ellen and asks, "Is there a problem Sue Ellen?" but when he turns around no one is there. Sue Ellen is not a common name. Carolyn was stupid, too. If her brother told her the girl he's dating's name (Sue Ellen) and that she was secretive about where she worked, how could she not have even thought that was weird? If the girl's name had been Amy or Lisa, ok, that could be anyone...but Sue Ellen? They kind of assumed we were too stupid to catch on to all of that, but they were right - for a lot of years I was.

I always think the exact same thing.

Well also since Sue Ellen was only seventeen posing as a twenty six or twenty seven year old woman at her job they wouldn't have known it was the same one.

Here's another reason why Carolyn is stupid: At the end of the movie, after Sue Ellen's confession, Carolyn suddenly sees Bryan, she's surprised and all like 'What are you doing here?'

How could she ignore him? Sue Ellen mentioned his name duringher presentation Oh no. She must have thought it was another Bryan... wearing the same uniform he has to wear at work? She didn't recognize him?

Carolyn and Bruce win the contest for the biggest morons in this movie. They were actually hoping Sue Ellen would fail to save the company where they worked? Even to the point of sneaking around trying to sabotage (albeit weakly) her efforts? Plain stupidity.

reply

Bryan didn't know her as Sue Ellen. He only knew her as Swell.
