Seriously, at the end she shows up and starts hollering about the kids being in trouble etc, etc, etc....does she not notice that
A: this is not your usual mom is on an extended vacation kegger..
B: Her house looks way better than when she left..
C: Her Pothead son looks way better than when she left..
Hello, this has always baffled me, don't get me wrong, I love this movie!

She was probably just in shock at first that so many people were at her house and very tired and irritable from her flight, then the shock turned to anger, and she only started noticing the positive changes when she had calmed down a bit.

sharehaha, that's what I think each time I watch the movie. I mean, hello?! earth to mom? didn't you notice that your backyard is filled with affluent 40-somethings, and NOT drunk teens? yeah, the mom drives me pretty insane, with her simpleness.
shareLets be honest here - Her kids were pretty selfish stuckup little *beep* that need a taste of the real world to grow up, in the first 5 minutes of the film sums up how this mother is treated - Her son is on drugs, forgets that shes's leaving on holiday and shouts a goodbye, her youngest daughter wont say bye to her from a tree, the middle son tries to steal money from her purse, she asks Sue Ellen to help out with the dishes and shes gets an attitude and the youngest one..well Walters is the kind little one that gets left behind.
This mother is no way perfect but being a sole parent and no deadbeat dad to help out the mother needed that holiday or she would have had a nervous breakdwn or killed one of the kids for not mowing the lawm.
Would have been more realistic to me if they had a family member drop in once or twice to check on the kid for mom, but with the babysitter being dead that would have taken some creative script writing!
And lets be honest, its hard to imagine a mom who loves her kids to be away from their children for that long in another country. Most mom's would have taken a 2 week vacation at the most while calling everyday.
This movie was written for kids so they are too young to quite yet understand how you think as a parent.
Even if her kids were selfish, she's the one who raised them so she is partly to blame for that. And the father. Where ever he is.
