DISGUSTING!! plus cannot believe in 1991 it was okay to show an underage girl smoking like a chimney..not to mention her idol/boss lit cigs constantly..too bad. wonder how much the yellow teeth lizard tobacco kings paid to make sure all the leads smoked in this film.

This was 22 years ago....get over it...

I voted for Frenchie and Dia like a sex donkey on Xanax.

reply

lol.. yeah.. If it bothered them that much, how about not watch tge movie!! :)

reply

Uh, please don't give me that "22 years ago" crap. This movie was made in 1991, not 1941. The surgeon general first announced that smoking caused cancer back in 1964. And yet, years later, you still had movies like this where there's smoking. Why? Because the tobacco companies were paying for product placement!! So please don't make it out like nobody knew smoking was bad for you back then. God, don't you know anything?

reply

Nobody is pretending they didn't know it was bad moron. But society has gone insane in the other direction and produced people like you. Not ever depiction of smoking is sponsored by Phillip Morris. God damn people are brainwashed about "big tobacco" today.

You want to know what tobacco companies pay for? All those insane anti-tobacco commercials over the past 20 years.

The US government gives tax payer money to tobacco farmers as a subsidy because of restrictions on tobacco. Then they make laws preventing any new tobacco companies, thus CREATING "big tobacco" because nobody can compete. The monopoly effect makes those few companies in existence very wealthy. Then the government forces those companies to spend their money making commercials telling people to NOT SMOKE. Finally the government imposes draconian endlessly increasing taxes on citizens for smoking.

You know who wins? Government and tobacco companies. All the taxes, all the regulations, all of it profits big government and big tobacco.

You created the system you deride.

Sorry most teens smoke. If you have something agaist realism go change the world, lameass.

reply

To the OP, are you June Cleaver or something?

Oh my GOD!! Someone smoked!! What a horrible, horrible thing! I am traumatized for life now!

Imagine that! A movie about a teenager who smokes. Totally unrealistic!

reply

Uh, most teens do not smoke!!! That is ridiculous!!! Where in the Hell did you get that idea???

reply

Just about everyone I went to school with started smoking when they were like 14 or so.

And that was in the mid-late 1990's. So it's very realistic that the characters in this movie smoked.

reply

Actually the movie was shot in the summer of 1990..

Frankly I was more repulsed by the unhealthiness of Rose picking up candy off the floor and shoving it in her big fat maw. Who knows what kind of crap was on that carpeting?

Give me a ciggy any day of the week over one of those fungal, dust-bunny M&Ms

reply

Lol! This was the best and funniest imdb post ever! And yeah. Even though I don't like it that much in everyday life, I'd rather see someone smoke than to see them pick candy off a dirty floor and eat it.

My high school had a smoking lounge.

werlecar Did you go to Cibola HS in Albuquerque, NM? Sure sounds like my school.

As for the OP... just pipe down a bit mate. Back then we smoked inside of buildings too. I see you don't like it. Just keep in mind that this is your preference but everyone born has a choice and they way they want to live their lives; even the writer or director of a movie.

I just assumed that you were allowed to buy smokes under 18 in the USA back then. If the legal age was not under 18, then Sue-Ellen's mother is not such a bitch afterall (depends what way you look at it).

reply

Restaurants still had a smoking section in the early 1990's even if the surgeon general of the USA had issued a report saying it was dangerous.

reply

Smoking's bad.
