The kids stealing money

When the kids steal money from Sue Ellen's purse and then she later asks them about it and Zack responds "mom never had that much", was he implying had their mother carried around a large sum of cash that they would be stealing from her as well? I also felt that every scene where Zack speaks he needed to be punched the face or beaten back into reality. He seems like the kid that will grow up and think he's better than everyone just because he comes from a well off family. Either that, or he's just going to go around and "buy" love.

Yeah, apparently Zack and the other kids thought it was perfectly fine to take what didn't belong to them just because it was there and they could. It was pretty pathetic how nonchalant they were when Sue Ellen confronted them about stealing the money. They acted like it was no big deal at all and had absolutely no remorse or shame over it, though it's not surprising considering their mother. There's only one reason kids lack values, because their parents don't instill any in them. I couldn't believe the mother's tepid reaction to catching Zack taking money from her purse. You'd have thought he was just trying to sneak a cookie before dinner. If I caught my kid trying to steal money from me, I'd have had his A$$. Nope, teaching her kids the rules of life was just not Mom's first priority. She has one son who's stealing from her and another who's a lazy punk that does nothing but sit around smoking pot with his scummy friends and how does she deal with it? Escape to Australia for the summer. Really, what kind of parent stashes her kids with a babysitter, an elderly woman she barely knows, for two months while she leaves the country with her boyfriend? How irresponsible is that? Ironically, it turned out to be the best thing she could've done for them in the end, though.

Isn't the money he's stealing stolen by Sue Ellen?

reply

Yeah, but she only used it to buy a pair of boots and a magazine :p

In all seriousness, Zack was the character that annoyed me the most. He was one of the most arrogant, spoilt kids I have ever seen on film. If I was his mother, I would have strung him up by his balls for stealing money.

Plus, Sue Ellen didn't take the money for the primary purpose of spending on herself, she took it to take care of her siblings and make sure they had food. She may not have been exactly right to take it, but she did it for a good reason and fully intended to put it back after she got paid again.

I wanted Sue Ellen to punch them all during that scene. Her siblings are so annoying.

My question is why did Sue Ellen bring so much money home in her purse knowing that at least one of her sibs is a clepto. She had thousands of dollars in there. Why didn't she just take what she needed for the groceries and bills? I guess we just have to suspend disbelief.

They were all selfish ass bitches. If I was Sue Ellen, I would have told them "*beep* YOU! Fend for yourselves bitches."

Zack and Melissa annoyed me. When Sue Ellen asked Melissa to mow the lawn and she lazily said she couldnt fit it into her schedule (of doing nothing) I thought wow that kid is in for a rude awakening in the real world when she gets older! lol

Kenny and Sueellen were the only ones who did not annoy me.

Zack----spoiled *beep* punk who needs a ass whooping. Glad Cynthia dumped his whining ass.

Melissa---Stupid lazy ass *beep* twat

Walter---annoying sissy girl....glad he fell off the roof. Dumb bitch!

don't hold back QueenTessa, tell us how you really feel, LOL!

I agree that Melissa and Walter were completely annoying. Zack at least gets a couple points for caring more about his appearance and direction in life than most of his siblings.

@QueenTessa: You made my day with your descriptions of them. LOL!

the stealing of the money was a very bad thing to do but they learned those actions from the older sister who lied on resume and then used that lie to steal cash money. no morals.

first off, Suellen was forced to get a job when the babysitter died and they drop her off in the trunk without checking her for the envelope with the money their mother had left for her... I am estimating a few thousand dollars at least.

Second... When she gets the job (the one without the dianetics clown) she doesn't get paid until (I guess) the 15th. I am assuming she missed the 1st -- even if she had gotten the job on June 28th or so she still wouldn't be making much at all. They had no food in the house. When she was given the key to the petty cash box there were thousands of dollars there (Rose tells her that due to the hellish hours they work no one has time to go to the bank so she can cash paychecks there.) I think she at first took a few hundred dollars for the groceries.

Third...She said she was going to put it back when her paycheck came but it was for much less than what the kids stole and spent behind her back (the tv stereo station).

Now, here is where I agree with the OP a little... why she took that much to begin with (to afford a final sale state of the art entertainment center) is anyone's guess.

Yeah, that part always pissed me off when they stole her money and didn't give a *beep* about it when Sue Ellen was bitching at them.
