The Granddaughter comment

When Eddie returns to town to see Rose, the three guys in the diner are talking about how Rose's mother was "raisin' a granddaughter" or "roomin' a granddaughter" or something like that. So - did Rose have Eddie's baby? I mean, I know that he stashed the condom, but you know how things go so.... yeah.

That is a good question. I didn't really pay attention to what the 3 guys were saying. I wish I could go back to that scene but I don't have the movie.

They said she was "Grooming the granddaughter." In other words the grandmother and Rose's mother were getting Rose prepared to take over the cafe. Rose was not pregnant and did not have a child.

there was a little girl in the end at the cafe. i got the impression that it was his daughter, that he never groped the teddy bear for the condom.

Couldn't be, because only THREE YEARS had passed since their first encounter. It wasn't that many years, really.

Remember how Rose told Eddie that her mother and grandmother were also named Rose? So, when Eddie asked the guys about Rose from Rose Cafe, they replied something like: "There's been a number of Roses over the years (meaning, first the grandmother, then the mother). Now they are grooming the granddaughter" (meaning, to take over the cafe).
