Tells the truth about so many doctors

There are many technically exceptional doctors and surgeons out there but as with many highly-educated, privileged professionals despite their immense academic intelligence they are often completely lacking in any emotional intelligence, particularly where vulnerable people outside their social class are involved. Hurt, who often excels at playing WASPy cold fish, is perfect as a highly capable doctor who is completely at home with his similarly supercilious colleagues, but lacks any understanding for anyone who isn't a brilliant medical practitioner.

Being a doctor is a gift. the ones who take the time to study and learn and then practice can change the world. the other 98% are getting nice paychecks. This movie gives some attention to the 2% who care. Unfortunately, you have to get to the middle of movie before Dr McKee (aka Hurt) transitions from a member of the 98% club to being a 2%. Suddenly he's a patient (cancer) and the reality of what cancer patients deal with is unsettling to him.

I just finished watching The Doctor, after having seen it several years ago. Did you watch the entire movie?
The story is about a doctor who is arrogant, efficient, smart, but an emotionally backwards human being. Through the great leveler of disease and the terror of having to walk down that dark road - the doctor experiences a much needed transformation. It happens through his friendship with a patient with a Stage 4 brain tumor.
What makes the film so great are the excellent performances by everyone. I believe this is an exceptionally well made movie.
