All the women in Grady wear dresses, no pants, except Lu

I've watched this movie so many times. This past weekend it was on one of the movie channels so I had to watch, again. This is the first time I paid attention to the wardrobe of the women cast members of Grady. They all wear skirts or dresses, except Lu. She goes from jeans and boots to dresses. Is there a point being made with this "dress code"?

Also, the dance scene is simply wonderful. Love this underrated film, a real sleeper until you see it for the first time.

She's supposed to be a feisty, tomboy type. When she comes out of her house, Ben compliments her, and she's acting like she's not used to wearing a dress/ dressing up.

Just to add to what buddyboy28 said, it's set in an old-fashioned, small, southern town. And Lou's the only one who's ever been to the big city--worked as a bartender in NYC. So, yeah, she's the odd duck among the southern "ladies" in Grady.
