Why wouldnt they let him pay for the fence with Cash and leave town?

Always thought that this was stupid as hell, how he could have paid for the damage to the Judges fence in cash or left town and sent a check to pay for the fence after he got his job in Los Angeles, if he didnt have the money he could charge it to his credit card too.

And he could have had the car towed to the nearest large town or city and had it fixed right away too, not waiting for the local residents to get the parts and fix it, that was stupid, you can charge it to credit cards and pay it back after your new job gives you money, or savings would cover most of it.

There is no way that the judge could legally force him to remain in town and do community service like he did, being an out of town resident passing through to Los Angeles from Washington,DC, i would have refused to do the community service and paid for the damage to the fence in cash right away and just had the car towed to a big city and fixed it, then continued on to LA, credit cards would cover any damage costs or bills.

Very odd how he never complained or fought that judge on being forced to stay in town, towns cant force non residents passing through to remain in town when a bill can be paid and the damage is fixed, that judge was just being a stupid ass to him.

That would have been a very short movie.

Same reason he couldn't get the car fixed right away. He didn't have much cash on him and "they don't take checks or credit."
