Worst John Candy film?

I've had it on in the background and am having a really easy time seeing why it has such a low rating. This is a pretty terrible film.

Maybe it's the fact that he's not a believable sex object which this film seems to portray.

I'll admit, I've not seen all of his films but as a challenge, I'd like to know one that he has done that is worse.

I like this film, and it's definitely not his worst.

Sure he was a sex object; he was delirious. Aren't you a sex object in your dreams?

His definite worst was Boris and Natascha though it was only a cameo.
Hot to trot was bad too, though he only used his voice in that.
And I hated spaceballs; but maybe because I dont like science-fiction movies so I never watched star wars, so I couldn't appreciate a parody of that either.
Not to mention his films in the early 70s.

OK, I have to wonder if you watched the movie...or at least paid attention to it when you did.

Possible Spoiler:

He was in a dream/delerious state. In that dlerium, he had a "magic" typewriter that allowed him to script his life the way he wanted it to. Of course that's the funny part. He isn't a sex object in real life in the movie, but in his dream, he becomes the sex object he wishes he could be. Maybe that's why you didn't like it. You just didn't understand it. Maybe it's not his best movie, but it's not bad. Try watching it again and paying attention...I mean, at least if you wanna post sensibly on IMDB.

Hint: The dream doesn't start when he has the accident on the road. He actually never starts the trip at all. The trip stops and his delerium begins when he gets hit by the trunk lid of the car.

it doesnt sound like youve seen this one. he wasnt supposed to be a believable sex object. he was in a fantasy world where he was more or less a god. him as a sex object was a big part of the joke.

reply

The only reason he's a sex object is because he wrote himself to be one.

But I agree, this is probably his worst, but there are some I still haven't seen (Wagons East and Canadian Bacon), and others I haven't seen in a long time (Who's Harry Crumb?).

reply

I haven't seen it, but if it's worse than Wagons East or Hot to Trot, it should be sealed in five feet of lead and dumped in the North Sea.

Are any of the films mentioned in this post actually worse than Summer Rental?

reply

Hmm. Probably, a bit.

reply

nothing but trouble
going berserk
are worse
Summer Rental is on the same level.
If it wasnt for the last 30 minutes of Summer Rental it would be up there more.

reply

Its not far from his worst.

Its that man again!!

summer rental was a great PG comedy until the last 30 minutes of the movie, it went way down closer to the ending.

Nothing but trouble is an offbeat movie, underrated in my opinion. I think Wagons East, Canadian Bacon, and Going Berserk are some of his worst.

Easily the worst. The best thing in the movie was the Disney-like fictionalized town; sad this was Burr's last effort

This is actually one of my favorite JC movies are PTA and UB. It's hilarious and the concept of him writing his own fate is actually good.
