Not stupid at all. Very odd, very eccentric, but not stupid.
I think it's a great movie - 9/10.

This is a terrific movie! I give it a nine out of ten.

I loved the humor and all of the visual gags. If it went a little far anywhere, I would say that it would have been with the Troglodists.

It is definitely very French, what with the rich texture of old objects, spaces and styles in use, and also with the existential setting, what with the apartment house being this lone bastion in a field of widespread destruction. It seems like a recurring theme, like in Waiting for Godot, or even the setting for the Triplets of Belleville and if I sat here and thought for a few minutes, I could think of many more.

I was so happy to see this out -- Finally!! -- on DVD!! I just got it and watched it with friends, they were blown away!

The ony stupid thing about this movie are the comments of some posters that despise this film just because it's not their typical summer blockbuster.

"Delicatessen" gets a delicious 9 in my book.

I agree with you, Kinematico. It's a brilliant movie.

I loved this film and I think people don't like it because it's not your standard horror or gore film. It's got a bit of everything, wonderful black comedy.

I respectfully & completely disagree with the OP. There is simply nothing stupid about this film. In fact, our world can use more films with such unique creativity (they're out there if you look, but more is even better!).
This is what I love about Jean-Pierre Jeunet's film direction/involvement. They are perfection in terms of all-round, raw creativity & visual stimulation. All you have to do is experience Amelie(2001), Un long dimanche de fiançailles(2004) & La cité des enfants perdus(1995) to see what I mean. In other words, don't stop with Delicatessen!

And, yes, I'm in agreement that, sadly, Hollywood-type productions have ruined the palates of the newest generations, & with that they miss out on the offerings & the wonders of perfect...& perfectly lovely...films such as this one.
