Is the year (1991) correct?

Did anyone see this movie when it was first released in theaters, and can confirm - via there own memory - the release date of 1991?
The reason I ask is that I saw this movie when it first made it to the pay-premium move channels (HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, whatever), and distinctly remember it being in the late-80's (either 1988 or 1989). Saw it several times because I liked the movie.

I moved to a new house in October 1989, and all my memories associate my viewings of this film with my earlier address.

I'm sure it's my memory that's at fault here, but it's weird. Can anyone confirm?

Every source I consulted (the VHS box of the movie, Video Retriever Guide, Variety's movie review, Roger Ebert's yearbook) said 1991. I have only a vague memory of when this film was released, but 1991 seems correct to me. I know that things like this can drive me nuts when I have recollections of a film when I was living in a certain place. This looks like a late '80s film, but styles didn't change that much in two years. Perhaps it was completed in 1989 and not released until 1991 -- though that wouldn't affect your memories associated with the film. Hope this helps, but I get the feeling it's going to keep gnawing at you! ;-)

It has the look that a lot of other films in 1991 had- for e.g. City Slickers..if you look at the styles of the clothes and little details like the rooms of the houses, the wallpaper, flooring etc..it definitely has an early 90s feel to it, im not so sure about late 80s like you seem to remember it, but then again a lot wont change much in 2 years.

I saw this in the theaters when I was in 4th or 5th grade so it was definately in the early 90s.(long story short..my friends dad took us to see it and his parents were divorced and that happened around the time when I started going to his school when I was in 4th grade so the year is right). and also don't forget that whats his face was the dad in home alone and when I saw it I thought that it was weird to see him like that...I was also 9 too, but whatever

Saw this in 1991!

I just finished watching the movie. The date stamp at the end of the closing credits is MCMXCI ... 1991.

It was definitely in cinemas in the autumn of 1991. I am certain, because I remember where I lived at the time, and the woman I saw it with. Both of them were only in my life for a short time. It was definitely the fall of 1991.

BUT, maybe it was re-released?? I suppose it could have been shown first on Cimemax, or whatever, a couple of years earlier.

Yes, I saw it when it premiered in 1991.

Are you referring to the scene where Adrienne is at the high class function and asks her friend if she can use his phone to check on Mary? If so, then you're confusing his security pass card that he hands her with a modern type cell phone. She needed it to get into the offices at what I assume was the museum. It showed a close up of it as she wandered the corridors.
