Movies similar to Dead Again

I saw this movie in the early 80's very much like this one, but need help remembering the title. It was a situation where a past life interfered with a present one. There was a piece of antique jewelry involved too, maybe a brooch? I remember this one scene with a vintage automobile at the bottom of the lake. It was as much a romance as it was a ghost film. Anybody seen it??

The first thing that comes to mind is The Reincarnation of Peter Proud. Margot Kidder stared in it. Dead again has a more uplifting ending than PProud.

On another note. I would like write a book that has the same structure of Dead again interms of characters but set it in the world of Private Investigators. The Dead again party sceans were pure Soap Opera.

One that came immediately to my mind as you mentioned a vintage automobile in a lake was "Ghost Story" (1981)

Can't remember if it has something like a brooch in it, but it definitely has some gems: Fred Astaire and Douglas Fairbanks, jr.

HA! That's the 1st movie I thought of too. I read the book B4 they made the movie and liked the movie just as much. It wasn't a reincarnation story though like DA.

Could it be Vertigo? The brooch and vintage automobile fit, plus it was re-released in cinemas in 1984 being one of the five "lost Hitchcocks".

Plus Dead Again was a Hitchcock homage...

Brian DePalma's 1976 Obsession, with Cliff Robertson and Genevieve Bujold, has a similar feel. Robertson loses his wife and daughter in a kidnapping gone wrong and history starts to repeat itself 20 years later.

OP could be long dead by now, or in another country, but here are some movies I think are similar to "Dead Again." Tidy little mysteries.

Shattered (Tom Berenger)

Mirage (Gregory Peck)

Spellbound (Gregory Peck again)

I'm trying to recall the name, I thought Meryl Streep and Richard Gere were in it, she worked with an auction house, and "green box" figured in a dream. LATER: It was Roy Scheider, not Richard Gere, and it was "Still of the Night."

Dead of Winter (Mary Steenburgen thriller)

LATER: Would also put "Snake Eyes" with Nicolas Cage and Gary Sinise on my list.
