Is it true, is this the sequal to Phantom?

Is this the sequal to the robert Englund version of the Phantom of the Opera? after all, it does say that it's also known as the Phantom of the opera.

reply

I ask this to my self as well, and I'm really confusing. But I don't thin this could be a true Phantom film. After all where's The Opera House?

reply

Its not really a sequal, but a follow up film. I honestly have not seen it yet, but from what I understand, it was simply made to follow on the sugcess of The Robert Englund version of The Phantom.

No, this film is not a sequel to Phantom of the Opera by Dwight H. Little and has absolutely NOTHING to do with that film. It's no follow-up or spin-off or what so ever ...

reply

I've never seen either movie, in fact the only reason I'm on the Dance Macabre IMDB page is because I was on the Phantom of the Opera Wikipedia page and I read that the script for Dance Macabre was originaly a script for a sequal to Phantom, but Phantom was such a bomb that the sequal idea was scrapped and re-written in to Dance Macabre.

This film isn't what it could have been, but I think it's better as it is than had they gone ahead and made a "Phantom II."

I have this on VHS and it has nothing to do with Phantom of the Opera. The only thing in common is that it was made by the same company 21st century...
This movie is not very good and probably why it hasn´t gotten a release on DVD yet.
I met Englund on a convention and asked him about if this was a loosely based sequel to Phantom and he said NO, but there was talk about a sequel and even an idea or script which involved the phantom now living under the streets of New york in the sewers. He rescues a blind girl from an attack and again becomes obseesed by her as she has a lovely voice and he feels sad for her blindness.
It would play out during the winter with snow settings and it seemed Englund was very enthusiastic about the whole idea but it never bore fruit so to speak...

I think this was originally planned as a sequel to Englund's PHANTOM, but after rewrites and the like, it was changed into a stand alone film. The same situation occured with CYBORG starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. It was originally intended to be MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE II, but the final product is no sequel.
