There's a critter 4 movie cover in which a critter was in space with his head, hands and legs sticking out of an egg (he was on top of planet earth in the cover).

That sounds like another thing the movie lifted from Alien3, "On earth everyone can hear you scream." The image you describe sounds not all that different from the original teaser trailer they had for Alien3.
shareYeah I have a VHS ex-rental copy of Critters 4 that has that cover. In fact, the egg on the cover is a direct facsimile of the ALIEN poster...not a replica or homage, an actual SCAN. The tagline reads: "IN SPACE NO ONE CAN SMELL ROTTEN EGGS" and the title is listed as Critters 4 on the front, and CRITTERS 4: CRITTERS IN SPACE on the spine. Here's a picture of it:

shareI saw this late one night on a station and thought it was ok but it did not have any of the original actors in this movie and that is why I am not too crazy about sequels when they do not have the original actors in it at all.
