What's so bad about it?

This movie is awesome......right next to part 3.

The whole series is AWESOME!

reply

Yes, the series is awesome as whole, but this entry is weak because there's barely any critter action in it, and when there is, you barely see them cuz they move too fast and are too furry. Plus, Ug was a bad guy! What the heck was that all about?! And IMO the space setting was boring.

reply

Your right, but I don't have a clue why I like it.

reply

Probably just the need for another "Critters" entry. That's how I feel; we need a 5th.

Your right? But I don't see anything to his right at all!

"Hear me now! This place is cursed, damned, and yes your master is the devil!"

And all the outer space shots were reused footage. That shot of the earth behind the moon, and the last shot of the space ship flying crazy. And the annoying eurotrash overacting captain.

I like Critters 4 much better than 3. It has a kind of sarcasm or something going on that 2 and 3 don't. Face it by the time you get to the 3rd sequel, if it's not a straight up spoof than it's going to be a turkey.

Yeah, what was up with hardly any Critters stuff? And Ug being a villain takes a little away from the first movies. I'm just getting done watching these for the first time on the newly released four-pack.

I love this film, the only Critters movie I didn't like was part 3.

One of the things I really appreciated about this one, apart from the complete 180 in tone and decision to make a gritty, almost-cyberpunky space horror like Alien with Tangerine Dream-like music, was the fact that it functions almost like a sequel to Android, as well as the Critters film. Footage, sets and design is all carried over from that film, as is the mythology of Terracorps (they were the evil, Weyland Yutani-esque company in Android) and their stormtroopers.

I think Critters fans might enjoy it more if they saw Android (which was the first production from SMART EGG, Don and Barry Opper's company that also produced the first two Critters pictures). I recommend watching a little marathon: Critters, Critters 2: The Main Course, Critters 3: You are What They Eat, Android, Critters 4: In space no one can hear you scream.

This film is slow, dreary, and uneventful. The Crites don't show up until the second half of the movie, the infrequent attack set pieces are flatly staged, the pace seriously drags, the murky cinematography was way too dark and ugly, and turning Ug into a bad guy was a major mistake on the filmmakers' behalf.

The main thing I don't like is that Ug is bad.

My problems with Critters 4 -

1. barely any critter action

2. Ug was bad

3. The main kid wasn't very likeable (at the end he turned a little better)

4. None of the other characters were very likeable (apart from charlie and Albert (brad douriff)

5. The film was much darker than the other 3. There were VERY few comedic parts in this one. Throwing a upbeat final scene on a depressing movie does not make it happy.

So in conclusion this movie blew compared to the others. The tone was completely different and it failed big time.

I like this movie a lot too. I thought it was a bit better than Part 3, actually. Although I would have liked to see a bit more of the Krites.

The only bit I liked was Fran punching Rick. I couldn't really get into this one (not quite sure why) but I like the first one.

"Hey! Ladies! That was fun!"

The Critters were really pathetic in this one. Jumping inside someone's mouth was really silly. I didn't like the main kid character. I forget his name. He was the stereotypical rebellious kid. Badly acted. The change in Ug random and didn't feel right. I just read from Don Opper that it was only done to add more sympathy to Charlie and that was unnecessary. Charlie already was sympathetic being stuck years in the future in the middle of space.
