CRITTERS 5 was once planned... (storyline)

I do remember reading (I think it was a video promo catalog that they gave out to retailers) back when 3 and 4 came out straight to video that New Line was preparing a 5th Critters film. The story line they mentioned involved the Critters being mistakenly shipped in sporting goods boxes to a baseball stadium (I think it was Japan) where they wrecked havoc during a crowded baseball game. Of course the film was never made but I thought this might be of some interest to some people.

Let me know if anyone else remembers this back in the day.

I do recall something like that. I love critters so much, its been one of my favorites forever, whether the last two sucked or not. I would not be surprised if it was going to be made, but the franchise hit rock bottom and I don't think NEW LINE CINEMA wanted to waste any more time and/or money on it. Plus- A baseball game? Hmmmmmm. That would be freaky, but in Japan, and what does baseball have to do with it? These are the questions that haunt me . . . :)

I hope they ressurect the critters franshise. They tried to remake the series in '92 and is it any surprise that it failed? Since they have brought back many of the old movies (king kong, Halloween, Alien/Predator ext.) I think they should bring back critters. Imagine CRITTERS- 21st century stile!

Baseball is pretty big in Japan. It's really the only sport that is really popular in both countries, therefore the idea that shipping a box of baseballs from the US to Japan isn't that farfetched.

Give it time I am sure Critters would be brought back. If not then they might make a remake of the original movie and I am not crazy about remakes you know. Who knows only the people in Hollywood know about their ideas and all.

I think it would be cool if critters 5 had them attacking another country like Japan. Or maybe some kind of worldwide invasion trying to make earth their new breeding ground.

That would be totally cool to see a movie like that and I like your idea too! Another twist or idea that I have is some how the Critters figure out a way to become human without being detected at all. That would be interesting as well for a movie.

I heard, or read somewhere that they were planning to do a 5th "Critters" film, but it was supposed to have a Christmas theme, and be set back in Grover's Bend - and take place somewhere in the middle of "Critters 3 & 4" (or maybe it was Part 2 & 3). Furthermore, the article I read stated that New Line Cinema even printed out a few "Wanted" posters featuring Charlie (Don Keith Opper)'s face on it. I believe they were shooting for a Christmas '92 or '93 video release.

Oh really now? I did not know that. It would have been nice to see a Christmas one but would it not be doing something similar to what Gremelins did? I was just thinking about that now.

I'll try and search for more info. on this "Critters 5" X-mas themed idea. Specially since they allegedly released some teaser posters of a "WANTED AD" of 'CHARLIE.' I'll be trying to hunt down this image, if it still exists.

Found this in 'wikipedia.com:'

CRITTERS 5: Christmas Attack

Plans for a 5th movie were dropped due to the declining popularity of the films. A rough draft of the movie was made under the working title "Critters 5: Christmas Attack" and was to take place shortly after the events of "Critters 3" as well as after the beginning of "Critters 4."
The plot was to either take place in a small town (possibly Grover's Bend) during a snowy winter Christmas or at a vacation hotel, with Charlie as the main hero once more.
No filming was done for the film but a picture of Don Keith Opper was taken for a WANTED picture ad of Charlie. Apparently, he was to be placed at No.#1 on the Krite's most wanted list, due to the fact that he had eliminated so many of their species during previous encounters.

Hey that is great that you found this on wikipedia.com! Thanks for sharing that information! I appreciate that a lot! It is a shame that they did not do it though. The thing is that if they had made the third movie or fourth movie better I think they would have done the fifth movie.

YES SHE WAS VERY HOT! It is sad that she was killed in a car accident though just as her career was starting to take off it seems like.

Imagine a Critters 5 based on Christmas when people are having a snowball fight and they pick up a Critter, thinking it was a snowball and they get totally attacked

reply

That would be cool to see and the critters also attack Santa like they did the Easter Bunny in the sequel. LOL

Feck that, I'd rather a japanese critters movie and see a giant mega crite trash down town Tokyo!

Why quote other people when I like the sound of my own voice?

reply

I was a Critters fan when I first saw the original one and when they brought back 3 of the main characters from the first film I watched the sequel. Then I started to notice that they were doing something different with the third and fourth one even though a couple of the actors were in the first films. It just was not the same without everyone returning for the third or fourth film. Unless someone writes a very good screen play for the fifth movie I highly doubt that we will see it unless someone remakes the film. That is my opinion about it.

Think that'd be a cool one to have it at Christmas time. Could have them hiding in the trees and being thrown like a snowball during a snowball fight on accident and attack the person they hit.
However the timeline doesn't seem right for this. If it is set after the events of Critters 3 and start of Critters 4 then I don't see how Charlie could be in it as he was locked up in the pod until it reached the space station. Would make more sense for it to be between the 2 and 3.
