Blame it on the Bellboy?

I remember watching these both when I was about 8 years old within a few weeks of each other and noticing striking resemblances. Vacationers at an exotic locale accidentally fall into a crime, while mistaken identities, realistic slapstick, and dark comedy ensues.
Ensemble caricatures are featured in both films made in 1992.

I vaguely remember seeing Bellboy being mildly disappointed but mostly entertained, then seeing this and enjoying it a bit more.

Anyone else notice the similarities or remember these movies better?
