This is one of my favorite films of all time, and the most accurate western I have ever seen.

Totally agree. Superb performances. Elliott excellent as usual as is Ross but a great supporting performance from veteran Ken Curtis. Finally got it on DVD and watched it (for the second time) last night.

I totally agree with the comfort food comment - this is an entirely satisfying movie!
I not only never get tired of watching this, I think I've become obsessed with it. It's one of the few movies that is very faithful to the book. I've lost count of the number of times I've watched the DVD, have a desktop background with the scene looking out the door of the Teale Cabin, listen to the soundtrack in the car, have visited the filming locations in Canon City, Colorado (when Buckskin Joe's was still in business), and have compared the landscapes in that area with those of the location of the novel. As near as I can tell the book took place slightly north of Datil, N.M. When I have nothing better to do I go to Realtor.com and look at real estate for sale there. Maybe I'm sick. But it never hurts to dream.
