Mikhail holds up very well on camera

It shouldn't be surprising. At first he seems like on of those novelty casting ideas, like DMX in those kung-fu movie, Mick Jagger in Freejack, or Ice-T in New Jack City. However, ballet is, quitely originally and traditionally, a mode of performance and drama. Stories are told and emotions are felt, and the performers should be as mindful of the asthetic side of the art as well as the athletic side. Plus, Mikhail is one of the best in that profession, so why not be able to have as much or passable charisma in another form of storytelling and drama? Nevertheless, I think Mikhail does very well up against an award-winning professional with considerable range of his own such as Gene Hackman. It's a somewhat unique casting, but it works.
