reply

No he doesn't rape her in the film. If you want to see the film and can play region 2 DVDs (European) you can buy it from http://www.dvdgo.com Alhough the cover is in Spanish you can change via the DVD menu to English and remove the subtitles too.

I have already sent for it!Wooo!Wooo!Woo!*coughs*Just needed to get that out of my system.I'm alright.Yey,Closet Land!

This is the worst movie, ever. Until I saw "Elephant" that is - the two are tied for worst, now.

I saw Closet Land many years ago and could not believe that Ron Howard would do such a terrible film. I don't remember if I saw the whole thing, but years later, my boss mentioned that the worst movie he ever saw was "Closet Land" and I immediately agreed. What is so bad about this movie. Well, other than the subjugation of a woman who is captured, restrained, tortured and terrified, what else do you need to know? That it had no point, except spurious horror and did not go anywhere except to reinforce dark fantasies that men might have about captured women? Ugh, phooey, and yuck. Does Ron Howard recognize this movie as one of his best? Well it ain't on Amazon for sale. And anAmerican DVD is not available. Draw your own conclusions.

You've completely missed the point. It is not about sex, it is about the real use of real torture as an interrogation technique that is in use today.

If anyone projects sexual fantasies onto this film, that is real scary.

and quite simply sad.

PS, both Closet Land and Elephant are very powerful movies in my opinion.

Do not accuse a film of not having a point just because you missed the point and didn't understand the film.

The point of the film was to make people aware that this sort of thing does happen in reality, that is why it has an Amnesty International logo on it. If you do some research you will find there are still many countries which torture prisoners, both male and female, and yes even for such simple things as publishing innocent stories or poems. As another poster has said even the US is not above torturing people and accusing innocent people of crimes they haven't committed etc. Go and look an the Amnesty International website and you will find the stories of a few people imprisoned and tortured for petty reasons.

As to it not being available on Amazon, I actually have it on video from the USA (which I bought from Amazon) as well as on DVD from Spain, so yes it is available. It is also very worthwhile watching for those who are able to actually see the message and not just see it as being a dark fantasy. I think your statement about it being to reinforce dark fantasies actually says more about you than it does about the film.

I couldn't have said it better myself.
