Is this a rip-off of 'Witch Hunt' ?

I saw a film called "Witch Hunt" starring Dennis Hopper in the role of Detective H.P. Lovecraft. How could a script be duplicated without a lawsuit? "Witch Hunt" was awesome. I haven't seen tis one.

No. It's the other way around. Witch Hunt is a follow up to Cast a Deadly Spell. CaDS came out in 1991, Witch Hunt in 1994. I personally like CaDS much better. It relates to Lovecrafts work much better than Witch Hunt.

Cast a deadly spell was written by Joseph Dougherty and Witch Hunt was written by (wait for it) Joseph Dougherty!

The real question is: How could you ask such a stupid question?

Cast a Deadly Spell was first and, in my opinion, superior. I liked Fred Ward better in the role (sorry Dennis) and the storyline moved better for me.

Here's the rundown, without being a jerk to the original poster:

"Cast a Deadly Spell" and "Witch Hunt" were both HBO original productions, made by the same creative staff. "Cast a Deadly Spell" was the first of the two films. For whatever reason, HBO doesn't show either of them anymore, even though both were very good.

Personally, I always liked "Cast a Deadly Spell" more, but all I have is "Witch Hunt" taped when it originally aired.

I've only seen both films once. I just finished watching Witch Hunt, and I think I liked it more than the first film. Less comical and in my opinion, better atmosphere. Its definitely worth checking out.

Yes I have just obtained Cast a Deadly Spell and I love it. Great acting and storyline and of course Lovecraftian references. Also love Witch Hunt that I bought first, Both are great movies and could well be a series if the powers that be had any sense.

I only see them a little pricy and only used vhs. A double DVD release would be great fun.
