Has No One Seen This Film?

Nominated for an Academy Award in 1991 for best foreign film. I discovered this little gem when a local video store was going out of business and I bought it on VHS. (Actually, I think I bought the entire foreign film section.) Worth seeing if you get a chance.

Yes, it is a very good movie. I'm shocked at how the message board here has almost no posts.

I saw it too. I think it tells a lot about the meaning of life and maybe that isn't such a complicated thing after all. I liked it a lot and the soundtrack was also amazing. By the way, someone recently posted the entire film on youtube. And no, it wasn't me.

It's a pretty incredible movie. I've seen probably half a dozen of the director's films, and I don't remember a truly bad one....I discovered Fridriksson through my interest in the Icelandic music scene (he directed an important documentary on early 80s Icelandic punk/outsider culture). Children of Nature was the first drama I saw of his, and though I haven't seen it in well over 12 years, what I remember is that it's one of the saddest/wistful films I've ever seen. That scene towards the end (I think?) where you see the snippet of the two old characters together, when they were young, sort of like as out of a memory...my god, tears were ~exploding~ out of my eyes. I don't know what it was, but the sense of sadness and loss was overwhelming. I found out about the movie from an Icelandic penpal of mine at the time, who said he cried through the entire film (at the theater), as if his grandparents had just died..!

I just watched thia film and I am kinda blown away. The visuals are strong enough, but I also enjoyed the dialogues as they were realistic and funny as well (especially in the beginning). The music worked as well. Sure I will watch this DVD again ;o)
