music...

It has driven me crazy for years that I can not find a song that I heard in this movie. It is towards the end and some lines are "What'll I do when you are far away....with just a photograph...what'll I do, what'll I do..... Can someone help me? Thanks so much

It's a song written by Irving Berlin called "What'll I Do", and if you do a search of "Irving Berlin" at Amazon, the song shows up on several compilations of his songs. Judy Holliday sings it on an album called "Irving Berlin: A Hundred Years", and the Nat King Cole Trio performs it on an album called "Putting On The Ritz: Capitol Sings Irving Berlin", just to name two of those albums.

If and when you look at these albums, you'll undoubtedly recognize a whole bunch of other famous songs from film that Berlin wrote. The guy was a one man hit machine back in my grandparent's day...

In the film itself, Mary Steenburgen sings the song, but good luck finding the soundtrack, if that's the version you really want. I'm not even sure there ever was a released soundtrack for this film.

On the off chance you have not already done so, try Googling the song title and you'll find it was recorded many times in the past, by Frank Sinatra in 1948 and by Linda Ronstadt in 1983.

Just wanted to mention that the Ronstadt version is great. It is also worth checking out all 3 albums that she did with Nelson Riddle. Good stuff.
