Is there ever going to be a DVD?

Anyone? Do you know?

reply

I want one, that's all I know. :-(

I wish I knew, too. This is one of the great cult items and deserves a larger following. I saw it as a midnight movie in the early '90s and fell deeply in love with it. It's hilarious, atmopheric and completely off the wall -- one of the best L.A.-underbelly stories. (Fellow fans of PULP FICTION who've never seen it would probably embrace it.) Whoever owns the home-video rights: PLEASE hook us up! We'll forgive you if there are no bonus features; a decent widescreen transfer will do!

I remember seeing this movie for the first time back in 1995 on The Movie Channel when they had Joe-Bob Briggs drive in Cinema.
Me and my daughter had a blast watching this movie and if they were to put thid out on dvd, I'd have to get it for sure. But tellme this, Does anyone remember the continuity problems they had with the blood stain on Billy Zane's shirt? That movie was just wild.

I want a DVD too!

2009.....still no damn DVD

reply

Probably never unfortunately.

I think Laser Disc is going to be the best we will see (besides owning the original 35mm film that is). It's too bad since it's a better movie than 99% of the crap that makes it out on DVD & BR!

Sony has the rights to the film, as they released the film, and other film in the I.R.S. Releasing catalog on videocassette and laserdisc under the RCA/Columbia banner back in the 1990s. The film can currently be viewed on Crackle.

I was one of the few who actually saw it during its short run in Los Angeles and was thoroughly amused. Billy Zane was a nobody, Jennifer Beals was the Flashdance chick and the great Darrin McGavin was awesome as usual. This was great pulp in a pre-Tarantino film world. It needs to be on DVD.

Sony has now released a manufactured-on-demand DVD-R of the film.

You can buy it here:

I actually bought it (from Amazon) and I'm surprised how good it looks. Especially since they only used up 2.4GB of a possible 8.4GB disc.

It's a shame this movie didn't get a proper release, especially with the 20th year anniversary upon us.

All y'all - your prayers have been answered.

It's been released as part of SONY's MOD (made-on-demand) series, available via the Warner Archives and other sources. Here you go:
