Does anyone know why Raymond and Chico give the money to Claire ?

I never understood why Claire was being entrusted with all of the money. Why did they need to have her take the money to Paris ?

Any ideas ?

They were fugitives on the run. It would be easier for them to be on the move without the physical evidence on them. They always planned to retrieve their share of the cash once they rendezvoused with her in Paris. They weren't too concerned with her taking off with the money because they had a GPS tracker on the bag to follow it around.

That makes sense.

Thanks !

That's a funny point I've often thought about. Why would a pair of bank robbers hand over all their loot to a total stranger, and more importantly, not get pissed when she loses it?

I think the answer is that these were "polite criminals". Sort of a contrast against the frightening people of society that we meet later, like the psycho car salesman. Raymond was very refined like a true gentleman. Chico was not exactly a gentleman but still a great guy. A theme of this film is the unique friendship shared by unlikely individuals even though the world is ending. So, bizarre as it is, it's fitting that these bank robbers would turn out to be some of the most generous friends Claire would ever meet.

One of the things I found interesting and enjoyable about this movie was that I kept expecting various characters, like Chico, to behave as they probably would have in an ordinary movie, but they surprised me and avoided cliches every time.
